Dream Big

Hi, guys!

I just repainted an old canvas from my team project back in university.

It has been raining for a month in here, so I just put bright colours to heal my longing of the sun.

Dream Big, everybody! :D

Sherlock

Watching 'Sherlock' TV series was one of my activity when spending the holiday season last year. My sister introduced it to me but I didn't really interested with it. Until one night she decided to watch over again from season one, so why don't give it a try? ...And Benedict Cumberbatch really stole my attention from beginning to the last episode! How he acted mysterious, cold, and serious all the time is really entertaining (mostly when he left Watson in confused situation).

After watched all six episodes, his figure often popped up in my head. Tickling me to shaped him in illustration. So I made it! And I prefer the sketches than the final image, hahaha... (I'm still poor at colouring techniques...)

Well, actually he looks like this, next to him is Martin Freeman played as Dr. John Watson.

Trapped in Jakarta

I feel bad for people in Jakarta that trapped in flood for several days until now. Some of my friends can't go anywhere and also in crisis of clean water. Unfortunately, my boyfriend's house is located at the most deep area of flood. I feel really bad because nothing that I can do besides giving moral support. I can only pray that no more heavy rains for several days ahead, at least there's a sign that the water height will go down.

Although many civilians say that Jakarta is really terrible in trash management; cityscape; transportation system; and traffic system, it still have a nice place to see. I'm talking about the cultural area that still exist in the middle of big malls and tons of tall buildings.

We visited Pasar Seni Ancol last year. It's really out from our plan to go there, since we want to visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah at first. But the traffic was really unbearable, so we go to this place instead. Pasar Seni is used to be crowded and lived, many art activities being held and quite a great market for selling art stuffs. Now it left us some shops that still survived and art installations that quite catchy.

Survived shops.

Pile of shoes in front of shoe shop.

Catchy Ants.

Rattan King Kong.

Out Bond Area

Pinwheel and street lamp.

Seashore.

No sand, no play.

This is a view from Lodan Monastery near Ancol. When I passed the front door after had a visit, I noticed this Buddha statue standing everyday to face the traffic. I wish for a better Jakarta...

Flash Back

It is few minutes after the last day of 2012 here in Indonesia. Happy New Year for every creature in the earth! May us growing together to become better and never lose hope. 2012 was an unforgettable year for me, many new things and many things change. So I want to share some of them here...

First Things

1. I spent my first five months this year to make an illustrated book for the thesis.
2. After four years since my first attempt to ride a car, this year I finally make it real.... So, hello everybody on the street! Also, I can ride a bicycle now! I made it after all these time and my mother is the one that taught me. (I'm an adult that lack of childhood experience)
3. First live rocking session ever! And L'Arc~en~Ciel never failed to make me vibrant!
4. First time I really teach something in front of the class.

Most Epic Birthday Bash

I write about it here :)

Trying to Get Some Money

I manage to live everyday with my own money, it's great. This experience makes you learn how to appreciate money an how hard the real life is. But, if you could pass your first month and still have some left in your pocket, it feels like having a big victory!

Manage Something

My friend and I are decorating! We are learning about design in our past four years and never really know about managing business. But the passion is burning so it worth a try :D

Forgiving, Letting Go, Accepting

Starting something is easy but not when you dealing with it, especially with love. There's no rule about right or wrong and there's no exact time to tell you when to start or to end it up. One thing that I learn this year about love, don't loose yourself. If many people say that love is two become one, it's not. Every people must become the person that they want to be. When in a relationship, those two people must embrace each other to be who they want to be, to reach their dreams, to grow together. When one only give and the other only take, it won't go long. And... never lose hope, because hope is every where around you. You just not really notice it :)

Graduate

It feels really good when finish something that you start and you become a better person. Knowledge will make you rich and wise. But knowledge is not only things that you learn at school, because lesson is always around you, and it's your choice to learn or not from it.

And I'm really happy to start posting again in this page!!! I made it! As least one post in a month! Thank you for everybody that read something in this blog (both for particular reason or not) I wish that you can get something from it... :D

Happy New Year!!!!

Feisty November!

My friends and I managed a booth for a bazaar at SDH Cikarang last week. We want to start a party organiser service for sweet seventeen or wedding occasion.  The preparation was not really good because we were being busy with each other job. But, we are quite satisfied with the result. (After borrowing and making some stuffs).

Nautical and vintage stuffs being together on the same table. The garland was made by me :)

The cupcake was made by Ovi :)

My pals! Katherin and Elica :D

The Nautical Cake by Ovi *cute sailor*

The whole booth

Elica's dad has sooo many lovely birds in his big cage. This is a couple of love birds!

This one is the prettiest one

This is the oldest bird but he's really talkative and love to dance, (jumping with one foot) haha

Taking a bath :3

It's quite a great weekend, sharing stories with our friend's family... Looking at our friend's childhood photos (and then make it as a joke :p). And it's always feel like home when we are surrounded by nice and warm people.

I wish you guys a great weekend too! :D

Craving for Traditional Way

I'm struggling with my thoughts lately. I always peeking for the newest illustration project on behance.com and instantly amused with Steve Simpson works. Since I've been working with Adobe Illustrator for almost 4 months, I found Steve's work is passing my expectation in digital illustration. I want to explore more but it's hard too keep up with my mood-swing. So when I start to give up in my work, I take a deep breath, close my eyes, have a short daydreaming, take a long stare at incredible illustration in behance.com and deviantart. Then, I get my mood back and start to work again.

But then, I found this great manual illustration by Tetiana Kartasheva and I took a really long time to adore her illustration mood. It's very clean but fully beautiful at a same time. When I found out that she made an illustration book for her graduation project, I just very disappointed with myself. I made my own for graduation project too but how it came out in very rough shape was below my expectation. I know that I never want to give more although all of the plan was already in my head. So, what I need more right now is courage and an 'iron will'. And yeah, right until now, I still want to and crave to draw manually. I feel more close and intimate with my works when I did it manually so I really appreciate artists that still do their artworks in traditional way. But, many artists that could translate their skill in digital form better than in the manual way, Kali Ciesemier for example. So, whatever the medium, as long as the artists could translate what they want to create visually, it will turn out as a great artwork.

And I believe that I love drawing. I've tried to do something else, reading, make a craft stuff, writing, taking photos, and creating video, but still I can left drawing behind everything else :')

***

A calm song also really helps a lot. I personally like a song with dreamy tunes and not really attached to the lyrics, since most of them are about love . But a dreamy love song is quite helping to make my mind relaxed for a while. My favourite lately is Landon Pigg's Falling in Love at Coffee Shop. Never fails to make me smile when hearing this song. When I want to get a mood booster, FUN.'s Some Nights (although it's a song about war, but the melody is very catchy) or Carry On is really cheered me up :D

***

I wish you all could pass your hard times when struggling with your life choices... And whatever your choice is, never leave your dreams, never leave what you love to do, because that's the reason why you have a meaningful life.

Logoworks

I want to share about all logo projects that I've made for these three years since I learned Visual Communication Design major at university. Logo is an important part to make a branding works. In my opinion, logo is also a conclusion of the branding itself. It gives people an image (both visually and emotionally) to a product. Several of these logos are being made for my friends and my study projects. But, some of them were actually made for the real projects.

So, these are all of them :)

1. SATRIA - 2012 | Satria is a supply shop for textile industry located in Bali. Their business is growing bigger but they never have any logo before. After doing a research with the target market and discussing with the client, this logo was born.

2. FRUITCY DELIGHT - 2010 | I had a great time when making this logo. It was for my friend marketing projects for a yogurt shop, so she gave me freedom for everything. It's rare chance for a designer to get a total freedom in making a project. I also made 3D dummy for the yogurt shop. Yum!

3. PERANTARA - 2011 | Another logo for my friend school projects. I didn't get a clear brief about the project, they were creating a national shipping service business plan and it needed a logo.

4. SARINANDE - 2010 | Phew, this logo was having a long journey before it got into the final look. My friend has a family bakery business for more than twenty years at my hometown. It is a busy shop and popular in our small city. So, this logo need a approval from her parents and grandmothers which I never been discussed with in the making of these logo. But, finally they took one of several option that I made and it's being used until now :)

5. PT. LAU - 2012 | My cousin and his friends started their own coal mining business. So, they need a logo that symbolize about the mining and also environmental look. They pick orange for the color so I can't do much with the color tone.

6. MISTER BASO - 2010 | It's an assignment to rebrand a restaurant at the shopping center in our city. My friend and me choose the famous meatball restaurant for a rebrand.

7. SILVER TONGUE - 2011 | Another logo project for my friend in management major. He created a vegetarian restaurant for his thesis and it needed a logo. If I'm not mistaken, silver tongue means tasty in Singapore (or Chinese) culture. So I go from the 'tongue' and blend it with the yin and yang concept. The color comes from the silver and pink from tongue original color.

8. IMTI - 2011 | IMTI is a hypnosis institute that just started to grow. Both of my friends started it in 2011 but I don't how the progress until now.

9. HASIL LAUT - 2011 | Another logo for my friend thesis project. He want to create a seafood restaurant in Indonesian style, so here it is.

10. GEDUNG 28 - 2010 | My projects for rebrand a public places in Jakarta. I choose Gedung 28, a museum of east Indonesian culture. It such a fun project and I totally satisfied with the result. The logo comes from a fertility sculpture in one of Irian Jaya's tribe.

11. UBER GAMES - 2012 | My friend started his own business in board games selling. He asked for a cartoon style logo that symbolize his business, so I made a globe that popped out from a box. The globe is a symbol that one day his business will be going international. Box is actually sacred for keeping all those board game safe :p

Well, that's all of my logo works. In the making of a logo, one thing that a designer need to compromise is individual vision. A designer creates a logo for a client and for the public. Taste, vision, opinions are some of many parts that needs to reach the same point of decision. But, a designer also have to convince the clients that what he/she designed is what the client exactly needs. There's always a limit in compromising.

Haha, I wish this post could help you that need some input for logo making. Have a nice day! :)

Well, I don't think all of my logo works is good enough. But the important thing is how your logo works in the right place and for a right needs.
